Synopsis

The dream had been to escape with Flint. But she had entered into freedom alone. Now she must live without him or risk getting caught if she goes back for him. But she had never been one to back down from a challenge. She has the help of the Abolition Society, and the Underground Railroad.

But with tensions brewing between slave owners of the South and the abolitionists of the North, as well as within the Society itself, Mosana is faced with making some very tough decisions.

PROLOGUE

Mosana is free. Along with Tricia, Jerome, Mr. Fisher, Meg and Mel, they settle down to a life of freedom in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With the help of the Pennsylvania Abolition Society, they are able to get paying jobs and build their lives. Jerome and Tricia get married and open a thrift store, while Mr. Fisher decides to move up further north. Mosana, Meg and Mel work in homes as maids until 1849 when they finally make enough money to set off on their own. They all get a house together, while still working for the Abolition Society.

Mosana’s Timeline

1811 – Born to Nvibe and Lissena

1825 – Forced to marry Dajnu, and then captured by the British on her wedding night.

1825 – 1829 – Lived with Ed and Sarah, where she learned the English Language.

1829 – Ed was called back to duty to join the Anglo-Ashanti War.

1829 – 1832 – Mosana had to live with the Pickles (Daren’s family)

1832 – She escaped from the Pickles with Lily’s help, and came to America.

1832 – 1833 – Lived in Marc’s hostel under employ as an underpaid maid.

1833 – Was tricked and sold to the Russells.

1838 – The year Flint was sold from the Russell Manor.

1841 – She escaped with all the slaves of the Manor, and crossed the border with Tricia, Jerome, Meg, Mel, and Mr. Fisher on April 19, 1841. She was 30 years old when she escaped.
